I think FOR ME a major appeal of portal is that the characters are what move the plot, with all their interpersonal dramas, and this is something that many endeavors to replicate the specific magic of it w/ original stories and characters seem to overlook, again for me. Wheatley fumbles and wakes glados by accident BECAUSE he is wheatley. You are in the elevator successfully escaping until Wheatley changes his mind. Glados keeps egging chassis wheatley on even though she’s hardly in an advantageous position to do so because she’s just so pissed she can’t help herself, because she’s glados. Wheatley punches both of you into Old Aperture when glados calls him a moron because he’s sensitive about that because he’s wheatley. It’s engaging to hear their banter not just because it is detached witty commentary that reacts to things that are happening, but because it feels like an actively evolving situation based on all these characters’ relationships with each other, including theirs with you. The facility isn’t crumbling as some external emotionless force of conflict - it’s specifically crumbling because Wheatley is effing it up. Portal 1 spans a transition where you go from just being a routine test subject that glados can toy with into being a significant and deeply personal outlier to her, and then in Portal 2 it keeps progressing until you are so individually significant to her she can no longer conscience watching you die.

bro… the fucking magnus archives…

just thought about the mere sound of a tape recorder whirring and visibly teared up. you ruin a mans life so fucking thoroughly and nearly kill the whole world with it as a process of like, super slow digestion that started in his childhood. and then his biggest fear (of dying/disappearing and no one know what happened to him) turns out to be his freedom.

Whoops got sad then stopped posting here and forgot to come back! Will try to remember to keep up with this in the mean time enjoy this robot

obsessed with villains who you just KNOW are aware deep down in their heart that they've done something unforgivable, but the only way to never admit that or face the guilt is to keep doing it over and over again until they don't feel guilty about that first time anymore

This is Captain Kirk of the USS Enterprise speaking. We’ve entered the orbit of a planet not terribly unlike our own… save that it is exclusively populated by petty old queens.

They seem to have accepted Commander Spock as one of their own.

smoked a joint the sorcerer gave me and experienced life as a 1989 toyota tercel from assembly and production until i was left derelict in a junkyard in baker california oxidizing and rusting for 10,000 years. my favorite part was five hundred years in when a family of armadillos moved in for a few weeks

not caring if people think you're stupid is a life hack. recognising that you are kind of stupid is an even bigger life hack. we build entire societies to take care of each other bc we're all kind of stupid. it's fine.
